About the session
2020’s motto could be “Wow! What’s next, world?” (If we even so boldly dare to mention those words in public.)
Plans seem to be shattered from COVID.
Schooling options for children leave us with more unknown and self-judgment.
Professional obligations have us wondering our allegiances to work verse life.
When does this chaos ever end, and then you want me to have some predictability to it with a routine? “WOW! What’s next world” seems to sum it up nicely. So with the state of overwhelm, how do we go from WOW to HOW and turn the stress into a strategy?
Join CWLI as we host Emily Elrod, MHS for our next virtual workshop as we explore this exact question. Emily, one of the top 10 Health Promotional Professionals in the nation, will guide you through tips and techniques to reduce the overwhelm and find a routine that is realistic for you even in the midst of the unknown. You will get practical steps in this 60-minute engaging workshop on ways to go from stressed to strategic as you create a realistic routine that will work for you.
Her clients describe Emily Elrod as energetic, wiser beyond her years, and the person that gets things done. Her husband describes her as a blonde, good momma, and animal philanthropist. If you ask her, she is just a lover of humanity, dark chocolate, and nouns as she will gladly nerd out with anyone on ways people, places, and things (aka nouns) can go from stressed to strategic. She gained this love from her personal and professional experiences. Emily was once a 21 yr old single mother fighting for her and her son’s life. She was a lead ergonomic engineer who loved people more than machines. Also, she was an award-winning health strategist who despised how programs were creating human workers and not human beings…even when the focus was on health and safety.
These experiences showed her the impact of stress and how it can cut off innovation, growth, and longevity. With the motivation to help the stressed, she started a company called Workzbe to bring collaboration, fun, and wisdom to overwhelmed leaders in HR, Safety, and Org. Development. Obviously, no great company can be a one-woman show, so she hired people way smarter than her and together they facilitate WISE engagement strategies for companies in healthcare, power, and manufacturing (aka where the stress could have a human cost to it). Our WISE approach has helped clients see an average 22% decrease in turnover, a 28% increase in engagement, and over $1900 ROI on claims. (HINT: Your bank account does reflect how much you care for people.) When she isn’t leading an awesome team and working with the best clients, she is at home playing tag with her kids and farming with her husband.

About the Affinity Group
For most of us, talking about politics often ranks slightly below getting dental work; it’s often divisive, anger-inspiring, and leaves us feeling hopeless about the possibility of compromise and connection. Those emotions enter because the stakes of politics are high, but we hold on to the hope that these discussions don’t require divisiveness. In this group, we’ll seek to listen first, to build understanding so that we can learn how to craft solutions across political differences. Join this group if you’re looking for an open space for dialogue and a respectful exchange of ideas, but bristle at the idea of a political debate with your neighbors. We’ll craft a community agreement at our first meeting to ensure we remain true to this vision. Then, we’ll read books that have wide appeal about how our political ideologies are formed, how we can better understand our own beliefs and those of others, and how to craft a more civil, productive political culture in our community. Led by Liz Norell.
